MediaTek unveils 2nm Dimensity 9500 chip for premium phones (TVBS News)

TAIPEI (TVBS News) — MediaTek (聯發科) launched its flagship Dimensity 9500 (天璣9500) chip Monday (Sept. 22), targeting Qualcomm's dominance in premium smartphone processors. The Taiwanese semiconductor company expects Chinese manufacturer Vivo to debut the advanced 5G chip in its upcoming X300 series smartphones. Industry analysts view the launch as MediaTek's aggressive push into high-end mobile processor markets.

MediaTek partnered with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (TSMC, 台積電), the world's largest contract chipmaker, on advanced 2-nanometer technology for mass production by fourth quarter 2026. The Dimensity 9500 delivers enhanced CPU, GPU, and neural processing unit capabilities. MediaTek President Joe Chen (陳冠州) confirmed that nearly all major Android smartphone and tablet manufacturers have adopted the new flagship processor.

MediaTek Senior Vice President JC Hsu (徐敬全) projects global smartphone market growth of 1-2% this year, with potential stagnation next year due to tariffs and economic pressures. The company's Dimensity processors command approximately 40% global market share, with MediaTek targeting similar dominance in flagship smartphones. MediaTek plans Arizona production facilities to serve U.S. customers and circumvent tariff challenges, strengthening its American market position. ◼
