TAIPEI (TVBS News) — Kuomintang (KMT) legislator-at-large candidate Han Kuo-yu issued a challenge to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) on Sunday (Dec. 10), suggesting that if they aimed to sever ties with Chinese culture, they should begin by dismantling the centuries-old Tainan Confucius Temple.

Han made this statement during the opening of the KMT's legislative campaign headquarters in Tainan, expressing solidarity with Chu Kuei-chih, a teacher at Taipei First Girls High School (TFG), who is at the center of the "108 Curriculum" controversy.

Han emphasized the profound influence of Confucius, whose principles have shaped Chinese culture for over 2,500 years, emphasizing values of justice, virtue, education, family, and self-improvement.

He stressed the significance of Confucianism, Buddhism, and Taoism to Taiwan, highlighting their deep historical roots on the island. Han also raised concerns about the potential impact on education and the ideological direction for future generations if Chinese literary classics were removed from the national curriculum.
